Project Profile: Shipboard Integrated Navigation and Display Systems - SHINNADS
In 2001, Offshore Systems deployed 40 Shipboard Integrated Navigation and Display Systems (SHINNADS) fleet wide including outfitting four submarines with specialized software for submerged navigation. As the prime contractor for this project, Offshore Systems was responsible for the shipboard system hardware, the ECDIS and WECDIS software, Radar Image Overlay, ARPA integration and ship sensor integration.
Equipment included networked dual systems with a remote laptop for passage planning. The WECDIS software provides full S-57, DNC, TOD 0-2, ARCS capability and the display of Additional Military Layer (AML) data sets. The final software surpasses the requirements of both International Maritime Organization (IMO) Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS) and ECDIS-N, including the addition of Log Data Extraction, Electronic OOW Log and Customized Advance and Transfer capabilities.
As a result of this project, the Canadian Navy is operating paperless on a number of vessels.
Project Profile: Canadian Navy Fleet Installation
Offshore Systems undertook a fleet wide navigation system deployment for Canadian Navy surface vessels, submarines and training environments from 1997 to 2003. The systems installed are International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS-N) compliant versions of the ECPINS® software. These navigation systems, all tested to MIL-STD-167-1, have custom interfaces that were developed for MIL-SPEC analog and digital sensors. 62 systems were installed on ships fleet wide ranging from patrol frigates to tenders to small patrol vessels.
In addition, the entire fleet of the Canadian Navy’s training vessels was fitted with the ECPINS software with five systems interfaced directly to Bridge Simulators. Offshore Systems also provides Lifecycle Support Maintenance and acts as a depot for the Navy’s navigation systems.
Project Profile: Extended Line of Sight (ELOS) – Small Boat Tracking System
In 1998, Offshore Systems developed the Extended Line of Sight (ELOS) tracking system for small boats. ELOS provides a system to track small harbour patrol craft beyond the line-of-sight to a range of 24 nautical miles. The system tracks vessels as an overlay on an electronic chart allowing rapid identification of targets of interest. This small, rugged, simple system is suitable for use on open rigid hull inflatables.
