Offshore Systems International completes first product deliveries of COP-TDS™ to customers in U.S. and Canada
Vancouver, Canada — Offshore Systems International Ltd. (TSX: OSI/ OTCBB: OFSYF) announced today the successful completion of first product deliveries of COP-TDS™ (Common Operational Picture – Tactical Display Server) to customers in the U.S. and Canada.
COP-TDS™ is a new server for the display of track, target and tactical information, such as mission and operational data, for command and control systems. Command and control systems manage all aspects of a military or security operation, from the deployment and maintenance of vehicles or personnel, to targeting (where things are) and tracking (where things are going).
“Our new tactical display server is a highly versatile tool to enable analysis and decision-making for governments or battle commanders at the strategic, operational or tactical level,” said John Jacobson, OSI President and CEO. “It is a very powerful system for retrieving, filtering and displaying target information in support of mission planning and execution.”
COP-TDS™ is highly flexible, easily integrated into legacy systems or new applications, and meets both U.S. and NATO military symbol standards. The new product is able to handle thousands of tracks from multiple-sources in real-time and creates a common picture for display on any tactical, operational or situational awareness command and control system. It is both highly available and highly scalable, meaning numerous computers and servers can interact seamlessly, while supporting clustering technologies. With its open Application Programmer Interface (API) and wide support of data types, “the product meets demanding government interoperability requirements,” said Jacobson.
OSI’s COP products specifically address the top issues facing global command and control programs by providing a common operational picture for situational awareness and interoperability among military forces and coalitions.
“They allow for the sharing of geospatial and tactical data across traditional joint and coalition force boundaries,” explained Jacobson. “They also support network centric warfare by eliminating traditional stovepipes between systems and applications among diverse users, as well as building a bridge between critical navigation systems and operational command and control systems.”
In 2004, Frost & Sullivan, an independent research firm, reported close to US$20 billion was spent in the command and control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) market. Based on this and other research, OSI estimates that in its area of expertise, US$400 million is spent annually for high-performance geographic displays for command and control.
Early customers of OSI’s COP products include Terma A/S, which has integrated the technology into its T-Core flexible command system, currently deployed by the Royal Danish Navy. Terma is now marketing this system in Europe and North America. The U.S. Navy Naval Sea Systems Command is also an early adopter of the technology.
