OSI technology performing well above expectations in global counter-terror demonstration
Vancouver, Canada -- Offshore Systems International Ltd. (TSX: OSI/ OTCBB: OFSYF) announced today that its Common Operational Picture product line (COP PL) is performing well above expectations at a global counter-terror demonstration involving 26 countries now running from June 13 to June 23, 2005.
"All indicators from the first few days are that our system is working extremely well," said OSI President and CEO, John Jacobson. "Feedback from participants on our technology's capability and performance has been excellent. We're ready for the peak of action, which starts today."
The counter-terror exercise is testing new technologies that can be operational within a year in the context of a global response to fictional terrorist incidents in North America and military action between four imaginary countries. Homeland security departments, military forces and intelligence agencies are assessing how well they can use and exchange information to support coalition actions.
OSI's COP PL is being evaluated for its ability to improve "situational awareness" by providing in real time a single picture of what is happening in the field. In addition to its own trial COP PL is directly feeding battle maps and target displays into products from Black Coral Inc., IDELIX Software, Inc. and the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. A media event on the demonstration will be hosted by the Canadian Forces Experimentation Centre at Shirley's Bay in Ottawa on Monday June 20, 2005 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. OSI's COP PL will be on-site for those media attending and interested in seeing the technology in action.
Note to editors: Those attending the media event should arrive at the guardhouse at the entrance to the Shirley's Bay campus no later that 12:30 p.m. to allow time for security procedures. CFEC is a secure facility where visitors must be escorted at all times and opportunities for photographs are limited. To obtain a media kit, or for further media day information, CWID imagery, and names of participating Canadian businesses and government organizations, please contact: Captain Hollie Ryan, CFEC Public Affairs Officer: (613) 949-5725, ryan.ha@forces.gc.ca.
